CLONING
By searching databases for sequences similar to E. coli BolA, followed
read moreby RT-PCR of total brain RNA, Zhou et al. (2008) cloned human BOLA1
(613181), BOLA2, and BOLA3 (613183). The deduced 152-amino acid BOLA2
protein has a BolA domain containing a helix-turn-helix motif near its C
terminus. RT-PCR analysis detected variable BOLA2 expression in all
normal human tissues examined. BOLA2 was secreted into the culture
medium of transfected COS-7 cells.
BIOCHEMICAL FEATURES
Kasai et al. (2004) determined the solution structure of mouse Bola2.
The overall topology is a class II KH fold, except that it lacks the
well-conserved GxxG loop. The residues conserved in BolA-like proteins
appeared to assemble on 1 side of the protein.
GENE STRUCTURE
Zhou et al. (2008) determined that the BOLA2 gene contains 3 coding
exons.
MAPPING
Hartz (2009) mapped the BOLA2 gene to chromosome 16p11.2 based on an
alignment of the BOLA2 sequence (GenBank GENBANK AF060511) with the
genomic sequence (GRCh37).
