The mammalian ribosome is composed of 4 RNA species (see 180450) and

Hori et al. (1993) isolated a cDNA encoding ribosomal protein S23
(RPS23) from a human liver cancer cell line (HepG2) cDNA library. The
deduced RPS23 protein has 143 amino acids. Northern blot analysis
detected an approximately 550-bp RPS23 transcript in HepG2 cells.
By somatic cell hybrid and radiation hybrid mapping analyses, Kenmochi
et al. (1998) mapped the RPS23 gene to 5q.
