assemble in a complex on the DNA promoter and recruit the RNA
polymerase. GTF3C family proteins (e.g., GTF3C1, 603246) are essential
for RNA polymerase III to make a number of small nuclear and cytoplasmic
RNAs, including 5S RNA (180420), tRNA, and adenovirus-associated (VA)
RNA of both cellular and viral origin.
CLONING
By database searching with a 34-amino acid conserved sequence identified
in S. cerevisiae and S. pombe transcription factor-7 proteins (Tcf7),
Dumay-Odelot et al. (2007) identified a sixth human TFIIIC subunit,
GTF3C6, which corresponded to a previously uncharacterized 213-amino
acid human protein (C6ORF51). An epitope-tagged GTF3C6 recombinant
localized to the nucleus of HeLa cells and copurified with other
subunits of the TFIIIC complex, including GTF3C5 (604890) and GTF3C4
(604892).
MAPPING
By genomic sequence analysis, Dumay-Odelot et al. (2007) identified the
GTF3C6 gene on chromosome 6q21.
