DESCRIPTION
The vacuolar H(+)-ATPases, or V-ATPases, function in the acidification
of intracellular compartments in eukaryotic cells. The V-ATPases are
multisubunit complexes composed of 2 functional domains. ATP6V1G1 is 1
of at least 8 different subunits that make up the peripheral V1 domain,
a 500-kD complex responsible for ATP hydrolysis. The integral V0 domain
contains at least 5 different subunits and functions in proton
translocation. For a review, see Stevens and Forgac (1997).
CLONING
Zhang et al. (2000) cloned ATP6V1G1 from a hematopoietic stem/progenitor
cell cDNA library prepared form umbilical cord blood. The deduced
protein contains 118 amino acids, and RT-PCR showed low expression in
all hematopoietic cell lines tested.
GENE STRUCTURE
Zhang et al. (2000) determined that the ATP6V1G1 gene contains 3 exons.
MAPPING
The International Radiation Hybrid Mapping Consortium mapped the
ATP6V1G1 gene to chromosome 9 (TMAP stSG47990).
