Function: Deubiquitinating enzyme that functions as negative regulator of the innate immune system. Acts via TRAF3 deubiquitination and subsequent suppression of type I interferon (IFN) production. Has peptidase activity towards 'Lys-48'- and 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitin chains. Can also cleave 'Lys-11'- linked ubiquitin chains (in vitro).
Catalytic activity: Thiol-dependent hydrolysis of ester, thioester, amide, peptide and isopeptide bonds formed by the C- terminal Gly of ubiquitin (a 76-residue protein attached to proteins as an intracellular targeting signal).
Tissue specificity: Expressed in various tissues, including the liver and placenta, as well as in peripheral blood leukocytes.
